Barrels are best for shallow waters such as rivers, shallow reef or close to the surface in lakes. They are good lures for trout, perch and chub and you can feel them easily on the rod. Barrel lures dive sharply down to about 1.5 metres and can then bob up by keeping the tip of the rod high: an action very attractive to feeding trout and perch. You can easily feel it, so is an easy lure to manage close to the surface. About an inch and a half, or 3.5 cm long, they are best for shallow water predators and not only is their size ideal for trout, but they are lifelike and irresistible.
